Working as a barista in my family’s bakery, I’ve poured more espresso shots than I could ever count. Over the years, something that became part of my everyday routine also became something I grew to appreciate. There’s something satisfying about watching the first golden stream of espresso flow into the cup. It only lasts a few seconds, but it’s a moment that marks the beginning of so many people’s day.
The title, Thirty Millilitres, refers to the traditional volume of a single espresso shot. Such a small amount, yet for many of us, it’s enough to wake us up, bring us comfort, or simply give us a quiet moment before the day begins. I loved the idea that something so small could hold so much meaning.
This painting is my way of celebrating those everyday rituals that often go unnoticed. It’s a reminder that beauty can be found in the ordinary, especially in the moments we experience day after day.
